songs of brother

another night in this city, and instead of going home right after a long day at work, i went to a rooftop party on Madison Ave with my friend Martha. she's great, my friend M. always invites me to interesting shindigs.

her friend Jonny from London is a VJ [video jockey], does very interesting things with video and sound. using equipment that mesmerizes me. i went to a party a couple weeks ago with Martha, where i first met Jonnny, got to see some of his work.

M is a freelance photographer. she grabbed my camera and took this shot of the video equipment, tv on the right. the same images were projected onto the ceiling. if you squint you might be able to make out Jonny somewhere on the left.

the roof had the most amazing view. the sky was so open, not a lot of tall buildings. except for this one.

Empire at day.

Empire at night.

there were quite a few nice people at the party.

my new friend Zac on the right, also a video jockey, who's from Chicago.

ended the evening with a walk in Bryant Park, my favorite. another beautiful fountain. behind the fountain you can see the movie screen that HBO puts up every summer for their film series. i went to one this summer, to see Wait Until Dark, with Audrey Hepburn. everyone sits on the giant lawn, on blankets, eating and drinking and watching. gives me chills just thinking about it. the movie and the experience.

this was such perfect timing because i had a bit of a rough week last week, and have been craving some adventure. i'm actually taking a train out to Montauk with M on Saturday! i was hoping to take C there, get him out of his apartment and outdoors, but he is acquiring a new bicycle and will be picking it up that day. i do hope he can ride it soon.
my real fascination with Montauk is from the film Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. there is a lighthouse, beautiful beaches, just pure loveliness. the train ride is about 3 hours from Jamaica, Queens, so it'll be a nice day trip. excited to leave the city for a few hours. put on my bathing suit.
so i'll have some nice photos next week!

TGIF. moved my office this week. the space is just lovely, but what a headache. glad it's over with. here's a quick preview before we started unpacking.

my desk is the one at the very back, by the windows. cork flooring, all of our material binders are on the red wall shelves, including carpet and wall covering books. can you believe we have so many to fit on those shelves? it's a bit ridiculous. a photo to come later showing more of the finished space.

hope all is well with everyone. my love to you.

Beautiful!

Everything.

It sounds great to watch a movie in Bryant Park, especially "Wait until Dark." I hope I can do that with you sometime, any movie really. It's fun to share an outdoor experience with other people like that, such a simple thing. Audrey is perfect in that movie, and so are the scary characters. Oooh, Alan Arkin, spooky.

The office space looks warm and easy. And I'm tickled you can sit by the window. How did that happen?? You are not the grabby type. :) The cork flooring should be nice and easy on your feet. Have you explored the neighborhood much? Good places to grab food for lunch? Yes, please post new pictures when everything's put away.

I like to see your work and play life side by side. You are maintaining a good balance, and that is essential for health. You worked so hard in art school, and now you can enjoy the privileges of living in one of the world's great cities.

You chose a lovely spot for yourself Lesley. Is your friend M owner of Martha's vineyard ?
i love Audrey Hepburn, somehow i was not comfortable watching this film, i had seen Alan Arkin in comedy roles and couldn't accept him doing a bad guy's role. You'll not be able to stick to your chair if you see him in 'The in laws' with Peter Falk. There was one with Marissa Tomei, forgot the title.

so totally fun mama, we must do this! too bad it only happens in the summertime. a few of the parks are pretty good about it, all having one on different nights, so depending on where you want to go, there's a movie every night of the week in a different park! i think the one i was bummed to miss was 'Muppets Take Manhattan' in the Brooklyn Bridge park, with a great view of Manhattan!

haha, i'm not the grabby type. i actually really wanted this seat, and nobody else wanted it either! it was pretty much between the other designer and i, and now i think she regrets it a little. :)

i'll have a new blog post soon! i don't have any internet at home right now. i'm gonna actually post a little disclaimer.

thank you always for all your encouragement.

i only WISH she was the owner of Martha's Vineyard! then i could go there all the time.
i love Audrey too. mmmm my. i had to walk to Tiffany's just to get a glimpse of a place where she actually walked at one point in time.
i'll definitely have to check out that film! he was such a great bad guy in Wait Until Dark. the entire lawn of people JUMPED and gasped when he dove out of the darkness at her!! then we all started laughing. it was great.
